Firm’s annual revenues surged more than 16% percent, well above the average rates of growth in the area and across the country
Propelled by double-digit revenue growth, SC&H Group now ranks as the No. 1 Maryland-based firm and the No. 2 outfit in the entire Capital region, according to the national magazine Accounting Today.
Headquartered in Sparks, MD, SC&H generated revenues of $55.45 million in 2017, 16.39% more than during the previous year.
SC&H proved to be a positive outlier, both nationally and regionally. SC&H’s revenue growth significantly outpaced the average growth rate of the country’s top 100 firms, which stood at 6.33%. In the five-jurisdiction Capital region (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia), the average growth rate pulled in at 8.48%, a little more than half of SC&H’s.
The editor-in-chief of Accounting Today, Dan Hood, identified the most startling finding of his publication’s annual survey as “the slowing growth demonstrated across the leading firms in the profession.” Hood added: “the average firm grew more slowly in 2017 than in the four or five years before that — a significant, and unpleasant, surprise.”
On the strength of its 2017 performance, SC&H climbed seven spots in the national rankings, coming in as the 75th largest firm in terms of revenue. But that distinction means little to the firm’s top executive.
